FAQ
Your air conditioning and heating equipment works extremely hard, year round, and need regular maintenance. Air conditioners and heating systems should be inspected TWICE A YEAR, once in the spring and again in the fall. Gas furnace inspections are especially important from a safety standpoint. While air conditioning tune-ups are essential to Summer heat survival.
SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. Basically, it’s how efficient your system will operate compared to other systems.
The higher the number, the more efficient the machine.
The current(2021) minimum SEER rating for residential air conditioning systems is 14 SEER. Older systems may have a lower rating than that.
Current High Efficiency Air Conditioning Equipment, equipped with inverter technology, ranges well into the 20s. These systems are EXTREMELY efficient.
There are many types of filters available for your home HVAC system, from standard filters to Hospital Grade HEPA filtration systems.
The standard filters will help to keep the inside of your equipment cleaner, but they don’t do much to improve the Indoor Air Quality(IAQ).
Large 4″-5″ Pleated Media filters are a huge jump in filtration performance, and therefore IAQ. These filters catch more dirt, dust, and debris than standard filters. They can also last up to 6 Months to a YEAR!
True HEPA filtration systems are a Godsend for people with serious respiratory issues. True HEPA media material is certified to remove 99.97% of all particles as small as 0.3 microns (1/84,000 of an inch) from a home’s air. Some HEPA Filters also help remove odors, such as those from cooking, smoking or painting with the Carbon VOC Prefilter. These are No joke.
This is usually caused when your air conditioning and heating system’s main drain line has become clogged. The pipe dripping water is the Secondary, or Emergency drain line.
You should NEVER see water dripping from this pipe. If you do, Call The Cooling King for service immediately.
If you don’t get this issue fixed quickly, by a trained professional, you risk water damage to your sheetrock and belongings.
You live in the home. You are used to the noises your system makes. If your system starts making different noises, call The Cooling King right away, even if it’s still cooling or heating.
Strange or new noises are often an early sign of part/equipment failure. Dealing with the issue early can save you thousands of dollars in AC repairs or replacement.
There is no better value than The Cooling King’s maintenance plans. We evaluate the system TWICE A YEAR(cooling/heating) to ensure proper operation, and a long lifespan for your equipment. In addition to peace of mind, you get Priority Scheduling, Lower Energy Bills, Exclusive Deals, 15% OFF ALL REPAIRS, and NO OVERTIME ever.
Our Maintenance Plans also satisfy all manufacturers’ warranty requirements. Ensuring your system gets full coverage from the factory!!
Your systems’ lifespans will vary based on MANY variables, including, of course, the regularity of routine maintenance.
Based on experience, a well maintained system should last about 10-15 years.
That said, I’ve seen some poorly installed/maintained systems last 5 years, and I’ve seen machines last as long as 30+ years, if they’re well cared for.
Under the STANDARD FACTORY WARRANTY, the manufacturer covers parts that fail during the warranty period due to defect in the part. The warranty does not cover labor. On completion of a new installation by The Cooling King a warranty certificate is included with your homeowner information packet, and is specific to the model numbers, serial numbers and installation dates of your products. All equipment that we install is registered with the manufacturer to ensure your 10 year parts warranty. If you cannot find your warranty certificate, The Cooling King Air Conditioning and Heating will also be able to provide you with that information.
*With a Cooling King Air Conditioning and Heating Maintenance Plan, you’ll have a 10 year parts and 10 labor warranty on your new equipment.*
Spring/Summer: Often this is caused by ‘dirty sock syndrome’. Yes, it’s a real thing. Essentially, it’s when your system starts to condense water on the evaporator coil, and that water rehydrates dry particles on the coil. This produces a mildew like smell; AKA Dirty Sock Syndrome.
A lot of the time, a few days of running the air conditioning will flush those particles down the drain & the smell will dissipate. In more serious cases, the evaporator coil will need to be cleaned, and/or you will need an UV purification light to prevent this from occurring.
Fall/Winter: This is more worrisome than bad odors. With an electric air handler, this could mean there is something(dust, part of a filter, an animal) getting burnt on the heating element. For a gas furnace, it could be more serious still. You can’t smell Carbon Monoxide, but some of the other furnace flue gases you can smell. If those gases are present, carbon monoxide, the silent killer, may also be there!
So, if you start smelling something strange/different from your air conditioning and heating system; Call for service ASAP.
